It happens over and over again. A player toes up to the line at the 40-yard dash, sets his hand down, explodes out of his stance and then pulls up lame after a few steps with a hamstring injury. Unfortunately, that happened again at Texas Tech’s pro day on Friday. CB Jamar Wall tweaked his hamstring.

It wasn’t long ago that TCU was a football program with few draft prospects, poor facilities and little interest from NFL scouts on its pro day. Things have changed dramatically in short order.

Nevermind that Shaun Hill is 10-6 as the 49ers’ starting quarterback and has thrown 23 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in those games. San Francisco appears ready to move on without him.

A couple of less than stellar seasons as Jacksonville’s starter has David Garrard looking over his shoulder at backup Luke McCown, who with six seasons under his belt, has the opportunity to move ahead of Garrard on the depth chart.

While Ndamukong Suh may have decided to stand on all of his drill numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine, the prospect of seeing him participate in positional drills was enough to attract Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo, Rams general manager Billy Devaney and Lions general manager Martin Mayhew to see him at Nebraska’s pro day. The Rams and Lions have the top two picks in the 2010 NFL Draft, and most draft analysts expect one of those two teams to choose Suh. NFL.com’s Pat Kirwan has him going to the Lions, while Bucky Brooks has him landing in St. Louis. He may not be anywhere near the most famous or celebrated quarterback in this year’s draft, but Mike Kafka sure did astound the scouts from 25 teams in attendance at Northwestern’s pro day on Thursday. Among those on hand were Bengals QB coach Ken Zampese and Cardinals QB coach Chris Miller.
