Restricted free-agent QB Charlie Whitehurst will sign his tender from the Chargers Wednesday, and is awaiting the Chargers and Seahawks agreeing to a trade, according to a league sources.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. — The Washington Redskins announced Wednesday that they have signed free-agent quarterback Rex Grossman. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora reports it is a one-year deal. Grossman, 29, has played in 37 career games, with 31 starts, in his seven-year career. He spent last season with Houston, where he worked with current Redskins offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan, who served in the same capacity for the Texans. Prior to his stint in Houston, Grossman played the previous six years with Chicago, who selected him in the first round (No. 22 overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft . An unexpected NFL hopeful showed up at Washington State’s practice bubble on March 11 for the school’s pro day workout. Matt Lamb, an All-America discus thrower who didn’t play football for the Cougars, put together a solid gridiron workout nonetheless.

When QB JaMarcus Russell didn’t turn up at the first day of the Raiders’ voluntary offseason workouts Monday, it created a buzz. As it turns out, Russell had been excused to tend to personal business. Russell showed up Tuesday, the team confirmed, although his “new” body couldn’t be seen because the Raiders aren’t making him available to the media.
