The feeling emanating from the Seattle Seahawks’ news conference Thursday afternoon introducing new QB Charlie Whitehurst was that he’s fully expected to push veteran Matt Hasselbeck for the starting spot.

Small-school standouts often have to work out at more established programs’ pro days in order to reach a larger group of scouts and coaches. Indiana (Pa.)’s (6-foot, 5/8, 207) Akwasi Owusu-Ansah did just that, performing at Ohio State’s pro day on March 12.

Rain didn’t stop Eastern Washington from holding its pro day March 12, though the event was moved to Gonzaga Prep High School where 15 players — 10 from Eastern Washington and five from Central Washington — worked out outdoors.

It’s difficult to blame Calvin Johnson for wanting to get past 2009. He battled through knee injuries. His numbers fell across the board. His Lions won only two games.
