Evaluators peek into future at Air Force’s pro day

While players from the service academies may not be able to start their NFL careers right away, they still often have quality prospects worth monitoring. Such is the case with Air Force this year.

Team representatives from the Giants, Jaguars and Broncos came out to Air Force’s pro day on March 10 to watch four players from the academy and five from other small schools work out indoors in the weight room on a running track.

Here are the two noteworthy prospects:

G Nick Charles (6-foot-3, 291 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 5.34 and 5.34 seconds, had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump, an 8-foot, 7-inch broad jump, a 4.55-second short shuttle, a 7.53-second three-cone drill and 22 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds.

DL Ben Garland (6-5 1/8, 288) ran the 40 in 5.07 and 5.11 seconds, had a 35-inch vertical jump, a 9-4 broad jump, a 4.47 short shuttle, a 7.14 three-cone drill and 18 bench press reps.
