There’s a lot of news coming out of Orlando, Fla., on Tuesday, as AFC coaches sat down for breakfast to mingle with reporters at the NFL Annual Meeting.
Tom Cable was one of those AFC coaches who spoke at length, and aside from even more about the weight of JaMarcus Russell, he discussed with reporters the open competitions he expects at both quarterback and running back.
As posted by Jason La Canfora earlier, the competition between Russell and Bruce Gradkowski will go throughout the preseason.
The Raiders also appear ready to move on from the backfield rotation that included Justin Fargas, Darren McFadden and Michael Bush last season to a one-back approach, a distinct change in strategy. The Raiders released Fargas earlier this month and now will let McFadden and Bush compete for a role as an every-down back, according to David White of the San Francisco Chronicle.
