In a draft loaded with elite defensive tackle prospects, don’t forget Louisiana Tech’s D’Anthony Smith. While not likely to go in the first round, Smith is generating significant interest from personnel evaluators.
Defensive line coaches from the Vikings, Bengals, Saints, Rams and Ravens all came to watch Smith work out at Louisiana Tech’s pro day on March 17.
Smith responded to all of the attention with a solid performance. He ran the 40-yard dash in 5.01 and 5.08 seconds, had a 35 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 9-foot, 5-inch broad jump, a 4.58-second short shuttle, a 7.42-second three-cone drill and 30 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. He did position drills for about an hour after the workout.
The other notable Louisiana Tech prospect was RB Daniel Porter. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.66, 4.53 and 4.58 seconds, had a 31-inch vertical jump, a 9-1 broad jump, a 4.15 short shuttle, a 6.97 three-cone drill and did 18 bench press reps.
