Restricted free-agent QB Charlie Whitehurst will sign his tender from the Chargers on Wednesday, according to a league source, which would be a necessary step as part of a trade.
Whitehurst indicates his preference is to sign with Seattle, and is awaiting the Chargers and Seahawks to agree to a trade, according to a league source.
Whitehurst, the son of former NFL quarterback David Whitehurst, was extended a third-round tender by the Chargers, which would be the compensation if they would choose not to match an offer sheet. The Seahawks do not have a third-round pick, however, and thus would have to work out a deal with the Chargers.
Pat Dye, Whitehurst’sĀ agent, has spent several days negotiating with Seattle and Arizona after both teams expressed a desire to sign Whitehurst following visits to both teams. The Cardinals agreed to terms with Derek Anderson on Wednesday.
