Tomlinson: Favre didn’t tip hand about future plans

Two future Hall of Famers, both nearing the end of their illustrious careers, chatted on the phone and the subject of retirement never came up.

That’s what LaDainian Tomlinson told reporters on a conference call Tuesday morning about his phone conversation last week with Brett Favre, who was recruiting the free-agent running back to come to Minnesota.

“I thought I would get a clue as to what he was thinking, but I didn’t,” Tomlinson said.

Nor did Tomlinson ask. Out of respect for Favre’s personal decision, L.T. added.

Tomlinson said his decision to sign with the Jets had nothing to do with Favre’s uncertain future. “That was not a factor,” he said.

“Really, he didn’t say much,” Tomlinson added. “He said to take my time and make a decision for my family.”

So L.T. did … for all of a New York minute, signing with the Jets on Sunday.

Good thing Favre doesn’t play baseball. He would have lost his closer role.
