San Francisco veteran LB Takeo Spikes joined NFL.com for a live chat on March 9, offering his insights on a number of 49ers-related topics, including winning the NFC West next season, playing next to Patrick Willis, the future of Michael Crabtree and the team’s strategy in the first round of the upcoming draft.
While you can view the full transcript here, check out a few of the highlights:
Kosei, New Hampshire
Do you believe that the 49ers have the pieces in place to finally win the NFC West division title this year?
Spikes: Hi Kosei. Yes, and not only that, but I felt like other teams in our division let some of their key players leave who were big contributors.
Yo Takeo, I’ve followed you ever since your days in Philly. What’s it like playing for one of the all-time greats in Mike Singletary? How much have you learned from him?
Spikes: ‘Sup Kyle. It’s a pleasure and an honor. Not only to play for one of the best that ever played the game, but to be guided by his leadership, as man, as well.
Hector, Visalia, California
If you were in charge of the two first rounds picks of this year’s draft, what would be your strategy for the 49ers?
Spikes: I would say offensive line and I would go for a two-for-one special — someone who is a return specialist who can also play running back.
Zach, League City, TX
What do you think of Michael Crabtree? How good do you think he can get?
Spikes: I think the sky is the limit for him. It will all depend on him. In my opinion, as long as he stays humble, we all will see great performances out of him.
