There’s plenty of quarterback fodder to chew on right now in free agency. It starts in Arizona, where it doesn’t sound as if the Cardinals are ready to hand the starting job to Matt Leinart.
NFL Network insider Michael Lombardi said on Tuesday’s NFL Total Access that he expects the Cardinals to sign two quarterbacks this offseason to compete with Leinart. One of the names mentioned by Lombardi was Chargers restricted free-agent QB Charlie Whitehurst, whose name has been bandied about more than once in the NFL newsroom this week. Whitehurst, a third-round draft pick of the Chargers in 2006, was offered a third-round tender before the start of free agency.
Lombardi also expects recently released Derek Anderson to visit the Cardinals sometime this week.
“Certainly, Arizona has always looking for Derek Anderson to be released,” Lombardi noted. “They’re very interested in him.”
Another name to keep an eye on is veteran Marc Bulger, according to Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic.
