It was a brief run for LB Will Witherspoon in Philadelphia. NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reports the Eagles released Witherspoon Friday.
Witherspoon was acquired at the trade deadline from the Rams and stepped in to become an immediate starter. He started 10 games, first at middle linebacker and later at weakside linebacker for an Eagles unit that was beset by injuries.
On Thursday, the Eagles tendered offers to restricted free-agent linebackers Chris Gocong (third-round level), Akeem Jordan (2nd-round) and Omar Gaither (fifth-round). Two other linebackers — Tracy White and Jeremiah Trotter — are unrestricted free agents. The remaining linebackers on the roster are Stewart Bradley, who missed the entire season with a torn ACL, and Moise Fokou, who started four games as a rookie.
