As teams are busy releasing players and extending tenders to their restricted free agents at a dizzying pace on the eve of free agency, we’re still waiting to hear the latest on Julius Peppers.
As we’ve been hearing all along, the Bears, Eagles, Patriots and Redskins appear to be the front-runners for the five-time Pro Bowler, who is expected to command at least $14 million.
The newest team to add to that list is the Seahawks. Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times says the Bears are expected to make a big push for Peppers once the free agency gates open, and their biggest competition may come from the Seahawks. Jensen suggests the Seahawks as a sleeper given their willingness to spend with former Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen at the helm.
A league source told the Philadelphia Inquirer earlier this week that Peppers has the “Eagles on his short list of teams.”
As for Washington, Jason Reid of The Washington Post writes the Redskins are “expected to pursue” Peppers.
With some of the highest-spending teams reportedly in the mix, it seems like a decent bet Peppers will have someone knocking on his door at 12:01 a.m. ET Friday.
