INDIANAPOLIS — We haven’t seen all of the offensive linemen run 40-yard dashes Saturday at Lucas Oil Stadium, but some notable names were in the first group.
The best performance came from Maryland’s Bruce Campbell, who from the old “eye” test looks every bit a complete athlete. Campbell posted unofficial times of 4.78 and 4.81 seconds, and since he also did 34 bench-press repetitions Friday, he could be the early nominee for combine workout warrior — the player who forces talent evaluators to go back and take a second look at his game tapes.
“That’s an unbelievable time,” NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks noted after Campbell’s 4.78 run. “He’s the star offensive lineman of the combine so far.”
NFL Network’s Scott Hanson, who along with Brooks is broadcasting live throughout the day on NFL.com/LIVE, noted that Campbell could have a second career in the WWE. Sadly, I can’t say I disagree.
Some of the other better unofficial times in the first group of linemen: Selvish Capers (5.09), Chris Degeare (5.15), Dorian Brooks (5.17) and Joe Hawley (5.18).
