INDIANAPOLIS — Redskins coach Mike Shanahan said Friday that the team will tender an offer to restricted free-agent QB Jason Campbell.
The move allows the Redskins to receive compensation if another team signs Campbell and they choose not to match the deal.
Teams can use different salary tenders, and the higher the tender, the higher the compensation. Further information on tenders is available on www.nfllabor.com.
As for which tender the Redskins will offer Campbell, Shanahan cracked: “Just wait. It’ll be an exciting time for you (reporters)”.
While saying his evaluation of Campbell is ongoing, Shanahan did verify that the team is planning to have the QB on hand at offseason workouts.
“Yes, I expect him to be here,” the coach said.
Several draft analysts have predicted the Redskins might take a quarterback with the fourth overall pick, but Shanahan said he doesn’t pay attention to the speculation and has made no decisions about whom or what position the team will draft.
