San Francisco 49ers Pro Bowl LB Patrick Willis stopped by NFL Network studios on Friday and took some time to chat with fans live on NFL.com.
Willis, of course, is always inundated with questions about his experience playing for Hall of Famer Mike Singletary. Willis said discipline is the one aspect that Singletary has added to his game and chatted about what differences he sees in himself since he was a rookie.
“I’m probably just a lot more knowledgeable about the game,” Willis said. “My instincts have improved, and I read and diagnose plays faster. Just my awareness on the field and what’s going on, I’ve noticed differences there, too.”
Here are a few other takes from Willis:
Max, Oklahoma City
Hey whats up patrick? How do you feel about some people saying you are the best MLB in the NFL?
Willis: Hey Max. It feels great, but at the same time it humbles me to want to work harder, because right now, as long as guys like Ray Lewis and James Farrior are around, I still have a ways to go until I can claim that. But it’s still really an honor to hear people say that.
Dustin , Ohio
Hey Patrick, big fan of the Niners, do you think we have a great shot at the playoffs this year? Last season I think as just a lot of mistakes that left us out.
Willis: Hey Dustin. We have more than just a great shot, we have a won’t-miss shot! Because of what we went through last year, it made us more mature to the game, and we won’t let it happen again next season.
Blake, Dublin, Ireland
Hey Patrick, huge fan. Who is an up and comer in the SF defense?
Willis: I would say our safety Dashon Goldson. I really like his overall game, his range, his ball-hawking, his tackling skills, how hard he hits … everything.
