The Rams definitely are seeking a long-term solution at quarterback, but that doesn’t mean Marc Bulger will be cut loose anytime soon.
The Rams realize the options at quarterbacks in free agency and the trade market are particularly limited, and they have no immediate intention of releasing Bulger, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Bulger’s history of serious injuries and concussions are a significant concern, and his $8.5 million salary is an issue as well. But the Rams haven’t made a determination to release Bulger at all costs, and their ability to upgrade at that position over the next few months will play a role in that ultimate decision.
However, there is no roster bonus or contractual matter forcing the team to make a move on Bulger at any point in this offseason, and the Rams don’t plan on releasing him in the next few months as free agency and the draft unfolds.
