Giants LB Antonio Pierce e-mailed the Newark (N.J.) Star-Ledger on Thursday and said that he had been released.
The Giants will announce the move soon, according to the Star-Ledger.
Pierce was the Giants’ defensive captain and had been with the franchise for five seasons. He made the Pro Bowl in the 2006 season, when he made a career-high 137 tackles, but he struggled with injuries this past season and played in just nine games.
Pierce started his NFL career in 2001 with the Redskins and played four seasons with them. He has 686 tackles, nine sacks and seven interceptions in his career.
