Starting the final countdown for Super Bowl XLIV

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — With just more than six hours to go before the gaze of millions around the world are focused on Super Bowl XLIV, the scene at Sun Life Stadium is relatively calm as workers throughout the venue prepare for kickoff.

I just came off the sidelines, and my first observation is that it’s breezy down on the field. The wind at the top of the stadium is cutting from corner to corner across the field, as the flags are mostly pointed to the Southeast. Down on the field, however, the red goal post flags are waiving toward the West. There’s a bit of a swirling effect. It will be interesting to see what type of range the kickers are getting from both ends of the field during pregame warmups.

The field crew is painting the finishing touches on the sidelines, as well as the Super Bowl XLIV and team logos on the field, so there’s your first photo of the day.

The NFL.com crew is on location, and we’ll have photos, blog updates and the latest video from the NFL GameDay Morning cast broadcasting from the sidelines as we move through the afternoon. Enjoy the game, NFL Nation.
