MOBILE, Ala. — Browns defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, and his brother Rex Ryan, the coach of the Jets, have been hanging out often here at the Senior Bowl. Given their booming voices and constant laughter, they are tough to miss.
While Rex is basking in the success of having led the Jets to the AFC Championship Game in his first season as head coach, and trying to figure out how to take the team to that next step in 2010, Rob is in the midst of a rebuilding job with the Browns.
He is chomping at the bit to get started with new president Mike Holmgren now at the helm.
“We’re fired up! We got our defensive staff, including Bryan Cox. We’ve got some great, great coaches on defense. And we’re hoping to do some great things,” said Rob Ryan.
“Hopefully post some numbers like those gaudy statistics my brother put up there in New York.”
As for whether the brothers lean on each other for advice during the season … well, that’s a no-brainer.
“If he’s playing against someone we’ve played against, then it’s an open book, and vice-versa,” said Rex Ryan.
“That’s something you always do with friends, but even more so with your own brother.”
