The Colts and Saints submitted their first practice reports Wednesday with some important players missing from action as both teams begin preparations for Super Bowl XLIV.
Most notably for the Colts, DE Dwight Freeney did not participate in practice after suffering an ankle sprain late in the AFC title game against the Jets. As a guest on a radio show, Colts president Bill Polian said Monday night that he expects Freeney to play on Feb. 7.
Also missing for the Colts were TE Jacob Tamme (ankle) and CB Jerraud Powers, who is dealing with a foot injury that kept him from playing in the title game.
Safety Antoine Bethea (back) was a limited participant in practice.
The Saints did not practice Wednesday, but as required by the league, submitted a practice report detailing who would have participated had the team practiced.
Those players listed as “did not practice” were CB Malcolm Jenkins (hamstring), TE Jeremy Shockey (knee), DE Bobby McCray (back), CB Randall Gay (foot), RB Lynell Hamilton (ankle), WR/KR Courtney Roby (knee), DE Will Smith (groin), LB Jonathan Vilma (knee), T Zach Strief (shoulder), RB Pierre Thomas (ribs), S Roman Harper (shoulder), Darren Sharper (knee).
