Feely misses field goal, fails to give Jets lead

The Jets finally felt the pain of a missed field-goal attempt in this year’s playoffs.

Jay Feely misfired on a 44-yard try midway through the first quarter of Sunday’s AFC Championship Game, preventing the Jets from taking a 3-0 lead over the Colts.

Feely was 30 of 36 on field-goal attempts during the regular season and had been 2 of 2 in the playoffs.

The Jets benefited from missed field goals by their opponents in their two previous playoff games. They beat the Bengals 24-14 in the wild-card round after Shayne Graham shanked two short attempts, then defeated the Chargers 17-14 in the divisional round after Nate Kaeding missed three tries.

The Jets might not have such luck with the Colts’ kicker. Matt Stover made 9 of his 11 field-goal attempts during the regular season and connected on both of his tries during last week’s divisional-round victory over the Ravens.
