Jerry Gray accepted the Seahawks’ defensive backs job, but he hasn’t yet signed a contract, a team source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora on Monday.
The move West caps a wild season for Gray, who interviewed for the Redskins’ head-coaching job while Jim Zorn still held it, then met with new coach Mike Shanahan about the defensive coordinator position that eventually went to Jim Haslett.
The Seahawks will be Gray’s fourth team as an NFL assistant coach. He started his professional coaching career with the Titans in 1997, then moved on to the Bills in 2001 and the Redskins in 2006. Gray was Washington’s defensive backs coach.
Gray played nine seasons in the NFL as a cornerback for the Rams (1985-91), Oilers (1992) and Buccaneers (1993).
