Weis hire good for value of QB Cassel

It’s official. Former Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis is now the offensive coordinator in Kansas City.
On paper, the move should increase the fantasy value of Matt Cassel and Dwayne Bowe. Weis has a history of developing quarterbacks, from Tom Brady in New England to Jimmy Clausen with the Fighting Irish.
While I don’t see Cassel emerging into a viable No. 1 fantasy option, I do think he’ll be a much more reliable No. 2 quarterback and matchup-based starter.
The addition of Weis is also a positive for Bowe. The new Chiefs’ OC has been able to get more than his share of production from less-talented wideouts, so look for Bowe to rebound in 2009.
The player who could benefit the most from Weis’ presence, at least from a fantasy perspective, is Jamaal Charles.
A breakout running back in 2009, Charles is a versatile athlete who will fit Weis’ offense to a tee. A lot can happen in the offseason, but right now I see Charles as a top-five player at his position in 2010.
