Sims is latest Bengals defender lost for season

The Bengals announced they have placed DT Pat Sims on injured reserve Monday, a tough setback for a team trying to get healthy defensively before a rematch with the New York Jets Saturday in the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Sims, who had started the last five games, broke his forearm late in the first quarter against the Jets. It’s yet another key loss for a defense that has lost DE Antwan Odom, S Roy Williams and LB Rey Maualuga this season.

To replace Sims, the Bengals signed DB Keiwan Ratliff, who played in eight games with the Steelers before he was cut earlier this season.

The latest injury news doesn’t appear all bad, though. According to a report by Geoff Hobson on, starting FS Chris Crocker, who has missed the last three games, expects to return for the playoff opener. It’s also expected that DT Domata Peko and DE Robert Geathers will return Saturday.

As for WR Chad Ochocinco, he said — via Twitter — his MRI exam Monday “went well” for the bruised left knee he suffered against the Jets. Ochocinco, who was injured during warmups, had said earlier Monday he wasn’t able to extend the knee.
