Colts issue explanation for ending of radio show

As The Great Debate rages in Indianapolis and throughout Colts Nation, Colts fans are stark-raving mad.
Colts president Bill Polian insists it was what was best for the team, and 16-0 was never the goal. Coach Jim Caldwell isn’t second-guessing himself. The Colts players, at least publically, are backing the decision, too. The reaction from Colts fans, though, paints a different picture.
When Polian held his weekly radio show on HANK-FM Monday, he was inundated by a wave of outrage over the Colts starters being pulled during the third quarter in last Sunday’s loss to the Jets, according to a report on independent blog Stampedeblue.com. The blog also ascertains that with about 10 minutes to go in the show, the plug was pulled, with no explanation.
But, there’s more … an explanation. The Colts released a statement Tuesday explaining the situation.
“When programming becomes really compelling, the host’s obligation is to continue despite the need to play commercials, and Bob Lamey and Bill Polian did that admirably. The result was that there were six minutes of commercials to play during the final seven minutes of the show. Bill remained in the studio until the show went off the air, and Bob used the final minute to wrap up the show. What happened last night is business as usual in radio.”
Polian appeared on NFL Network’s Around The League on Tuesday for his weekly appearance.
