Panthers’ Smith breaks left arm on TD catch

Panthers WR Steve Smith paid a price for his 27-yard touchdown catch Sunday against the Giants, leaving the game with with a left arm injury.

Smith took a hard hit from two Giants defenders inside the 5-yard line, then walked in the end zone for the third-quarter score, but he grabbed his left arm as his teammates surrounded him. The Panthers later announced that Smith wouldn’t return.

Update: Panthers coach John Fox said after the game that Smith had broken his left arm.
