If the Indianapolis Colts are going to pull off the perfect season, they’ll do it without a few key regulars in Week 16 against the Jets.
The Colts deactivated DE Robert Mathis, LB Clint Session, CB Jerraud Powers, OT Charlie Johnson and WR Pierre Garcon, who are all starters. It remains to be seen how long coach Jim Caldwell will play the rest of the starters against the Jets as the game unfolds, but the guesswork has at least been removed for these players.
Mathis had been listed as questionable with a quadricep injury, while Sessions (knee) and Johnson (foot) were doubtful. Garcon (hand) and Powers (hamstring) were ruled out on Friday.
No surprises among the Jets’ inactives. All the players who had been listed as probable, including WR Braylon Edwards (knee), DE Shaun Ellis (knee), S Jim Leonhard (thumb) and QB Mark Sanchez (knee), are active.
