AFC playoff update: Patriots, Bengals clinch divisions

As Week 16 continues to unfold, we’ll update you on the latest playoff-race positioning. With the early games now complete, here are the latest scenarios in the AFC:
- The Patriots clinched the AFC East title with their 35-7 victory over the Jaguars.
- The Bengals slipped past the Chiefs 17-10 to clinch the AFC North title.
Those results set the four division winners in the AFC, as the Colts already had clinched homefield advantage throughout the conference playoffs and the Chargers had clinched the No. 2 seed.
The chase for the AFC wild-card seeds remains a lot less clear.
Because of the Steelers’ 23-20 victory over the Ravens, as both teams are now 8-7, and the losses by the Jaguars (7-8) and Dolphins (7-8), no other AFC teams can clinch the remaining two wild-card seeds in Week 16. The Jets (7-7), however, could be eliminated from the current group of seven teams that are still alive in the AFC playoff picture with a loss to the Colts on Sunday.
Here’s the latest look on the overall playoff picture and seeding.
