NASHVILLE – I just got off the sidelines from doing our pregame show on NFL Network. It’s a legit cold out there, somewhere in the low 30s, and when the wind kicks up it’s pretty potent. Gusts up to 30 mph at times. Now, it’s definitely slowed down some from this afternoon, but it’s still a factor.
I’ve been wrong on pretty much every Thursday Night game thus far, so take this for what it’s worth, but I like the Titans tonight. I think they can dictate pace and tempo in the run game and I have a feeling the Chargers are due for a December defeat. Chris Johnson is so explosive and I have become a big Vince Young guy.
Since becoming a starter Nov. 1, no one has thrown fewer interceptions than Young (he and Tony Romo are tied with three). No one has been sacked fewer times (he’s tied with Peyton Manning, there). He is ninth in the NFL overall since Nov. 1, with a QB rating of 97, and he’s not just protecting the football. He’s making huge plays with his feet and arms and he’s ninth in the NFL in yards per attempt since becoming a starter as well, which is huge for a Titans team that hasn’t been able to get anything going downfield for a long time.
Young is 11-1 as a starter dating back to December, 2007, and hasn’t lost a start at home since Dec. 7, 2007.
Philip Rivers is having an MVP season, and won’t go down easily. But I just have a hunch about the Titans getting this win and taking this thing down to Week 17 in their playoff chase after that horrendous 0-6 start. (Now watch the Chargers march right down the field …)
