The Dallas Cowboys have brought in kickers to compete with incumbent Nick Folk, coach Wade Phillips confirmed during his press conference Monday.
Folk missed a 24-yard field goal attempt shortly before the two-minute warning in the Cowboys’ 24-17 win over the previously unbeaten Saints on Saturday night. That development allowed the Saints one more opportunity to try to tie the game.
With Saturday’s miss, Folk became the first kicker to miss a field goal in six straight games since the Miami Dolphins’ Olindo Mare did so in 2006. Folk is 4 for 11 in that six-game span.
The Cowboys have two kickers on the roster, with rookie David Buehler handling kickoff duties only. Buehler has yet to attempt a field goal in an NFL game.
Folk’s miss on a short field goal attempt was reminiscent of Shaun Suisham‘s miss two weeks ago, which allowed the Saints to come back and beat Washington in overtime. The Redskins then released Suisham and replaced him with Graham Gano, who had kicked the winning field goal in overtime for the Las Vegas Locomotives in the first United Football League title game.
