Free-agent quarterback J.P. Losman has signed with the Oakland Raiders, according to a league source.
Losman had been contacted by the Indianapolis Colts last week, but the club has been unable to add a quarterback to the roster yet.
The Raiders’ starting quarterback, Bruce Gradkowski, was knocked from Sunday’s game against the Washington Redskins with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a partially torn MCL in his right knee. A second opinion Tuesday confirmed that result, according to the source.
Gradkowski has not yet been placed on injured reserve, and is holding out some hope of returning for the season finale despite two knee injuries, according to a league source.
The veteran had given the team a huge spark and led upsets of the Steelers and Bengals. The Raiders have yet to announce whether recent top pick JaMarcus Russell, the former starter, or journeyman Charlie Frye would start this weekend.
The New York Giants also has interest in Losman, according to a league source.
Losman, a former first-round pick by the Bills, just completed a title-winning season with the Las Vegas Locomotives in the inaugural year of the UFL.
