Lions coach Jim Schwartz said RB Kevin Smith will have season-ending surgery on his left knee, MLive.com reports.
Schwartz said Smith tore at least one ligament in his knee during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 48-3 loss to the Ravens. Smith finishes the season with team highs in carries (217), rushing yards (747) and rushing touchdowns (four).
According to MLive.com, Schwartz said the Lions received “encouraging” news about rookie safety Louis Delmas, who likely doesn’t have a high ankle sprain. Schwartz also hasn’t decided whether rookie QB Matthew Stafford will return from his shoulder injury this weekend or veteran Daunte Culpepper will start again.
