Cards’ Fitzgerald injures knee vs. 49ers

Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald had to be helped off the field with a sprained right knee after trying to make a leaping catch early in the third quarter of Monday night’s game against the 49ers.

On a deep pass from Kurt Warner, 49ers safety Dashon Goldson came down on Fitzgerald’s right leg, causing it to bend awkwardly.

After trainers examined Fitzgerald on the sideline, the ESPN broadcast team reported that the receiver went to the locker room to get X-rays.

Update: Fitzgerald returned to the game later in the third quarter.
