Owners should release Redskins RB Portis

The Washington Redskins have placed RB Clinton Portis on season-ending injured reserve due to a concussion. So for the 85 percent of you out there who have held onto the veteran back on NFL.com, now is the time to release him.
With RB Ladell Betts also done for the season, RBs Rock Cartwright and Quinton Ganther will continue to share the workload for the rest of the season. However, neither back has been reliable enough to use in a prominent role on fantasy teams.
As for Portis, his time as an elite running back appears to be over.
With 2,176 regular-season carries under his belt, Portis can no longer be seen as a high-end fantasy option. Injuries have limited his production in each of the last two seasons, and he’s not getting any younger (he’ll be 29 before the start of next season).
With backfield committees becoming more popular around the league, don’t be shocked if Portis is splitting carries in what will likely be a very different Redskins offense in 2010.
