Redskins will work out kickers Tuesday

According to sources, the Redskins will audition Nick Novak, who kicked for the team a few years back but had been out of the league since; Graham Gano, who was with the Baltimore Ravens in the preseason; former Tampa Bay Buccaneers kicker Mike Nugent; and Shane Ardrus.
Nugent missed two kicks in Washington’s win over Tampa Bay, while Gano was inaccurate against the Redskins in the preseason. Andrus is a young kicker who has yet to catch on.
Washington’s current kicker, Shaun Suisham, struggled down the stretch in 2008, but has generally peformed very well this season. However, his few misses within range have been critical — a key miss against Dallas in a very close game a few weeks back and a crucial, potential game-winning chip shot against the undefeated Saints on Sunday.
Nugent is by far the most accomplished of the free agents coming in, and the team could well opt to stick with Suisham pending the outcome of Tuesday’s competition.
