The Patriots downgraded five players — CB Shawn Springs, RB Fred Taylor, WR Julian Edelman, OL Sebastian Vollmer and DB Bret Lockett — to out for Sunday’s game against the AFC East rival Dolphins.
Springs, who has missed the previous three games because of a knee injury, had been listed as probable after fully participating in practice all week.
Taylor hasn’t played in a game since Week 4 after having ankle surgery, but he returned to practice this week and was listed as doubtful.
Edelman missed last week’s loss to the Saints with a forearm injury and was limited in practice. He also had been listed as doubtful.
Vollmer (head) had been questionable and Lockett (groin) doubtful.
