The NFL fined Falcons coach Mike Smith $15,000 for his role in a sideline incident with Redskins players during last Sunday’s game in Atlanta, a league source confirmed. Redskins players LaRon Landry ($7,500) and Albert Haynesworth ($5,000) also were fined for their involvement in the melee.

There are so many things that can be debated at the midseason point. Even though there’s still a lot of football left to be played, I’m about to give props to some deserving guys who might not be getting the recognition they deserve.

As usual when these teams meet, the game everyone is looking forward to this Sunday occurs at Indianapolis where the Colts and Patriots resume their heated rivalry. The Colts may be the lone remaining unbeaten in the AFC, but two of our three NFL Network Playbook analysts (Sterling Sharpe and Joe Theismann) predict the Patriots will hand them their first loss of the year.

So many wide receivers today need to conjure up a dance or a corny routine in order to garner media attention. Even after making a simple first down, the truly self-centered divas have become their own endorsement-seeking public relation firms. Gaudy numbers really don’t tell the full story, or properly measure the true worth of just a few wide receivers who go about doing their work while putting the goals of the team before their own.
