League fines Falcons’ Smith, two Redskins for melee

The NFL fined Falcons coach Mike Smith $15,000 for his role in a sideline incident with Redskins players during last Sunday’s game in Atlanta, a league source confirmed.

Redskins players LaRon Landry ($7,500) and Albert Haynesworth ($5,000) also were fined for their involvement in the melee.

Smith’s discipline largely stems from his interaction with Redskins CB DeAngelo Hall, a former Falcon who also was involved in the scrum on Atlanta’s sideline after Landry hit Falcons QB Matt Ryan out of bounds. Hall will not be fined, according to the source.

The sources also confirmed that Falcons director of athletic performance Jeff Fish was fined $2,500.
