The 49ers will need Frank Gore to be prepared for a heavy work load on Thursday night against the Bears, as backup RB Glen Coffee (concussion) has been officially ruled out.
Coffee, who has carried 75 times for 198 yards and a touchdown, suffered his concussion during the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Titans. RB Michael Robinson will likely serve as San Francisco’s No. 2 back. Robinson (shoulder) was a full participant on Tuesday.
Other injury updates for the 49ers: S Michael Lewis (quadricep) was a full participant in practice, as were TEs Vernon Davis (shoulder) and Delanie Walker (shin, knee), and WR Jason Hill (ankle). LB Takeo Spikes (shoulder) was limited.
For the Bears, TE Desmond Clark (neck), DT Tommie Harris (knee) and CB Charles Tillman (shoulder) were limited.
