Packers, Vikes downplaying Favre’s return to Lambeau

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The effort to minimize the hype around Brett Favre’s return to Lambeau Field is in full effect.
The Packers are acknowledging that it will be a different atmosphere, but they, like the Vikings, are trying to play up the significance of the actual game between the NFC North rivals. Good luck. It might be mellow right now — not too much chatter about things about town (more on that in a pending blog) — but the momentum will build as Sunday’s game comes closer.
Thank goodness for Vikings DE Jared Allen, who, although relatively muted when it comes to Favre, at least added some humor to things.
“I know I look like a psychologist, but I haven’t studied the mind of Brett,” Allen said on a conference call with Packers media when asked about Favre’s reaction to possibly being booed on Sunday. “It’s been a while since I got my PhD. We just got (to practice) this morning. He showed up, so that’s a plus.”
