Owners need to monitor injured wide receivers

Texans WR Andre Johnson (lung contusion), Lions WR Calvin Johnson (knee) and Colts WR Reggie Wayne, three of the top wideouts in fantasy land, are all dealing with injuries heading into Week 8.
In an interview Wednesday, Andre told the media he would be active against the Bills, saying “they might have to cut my leg off or something to keep me from going out there.” If his optimism doesn’t equal a start this week, however, fantasy owners should look for WR Kevin Walter and TE Owen Daniels to see an increase in targets.
WRs Andre Davis and Jacoby Jones would also be more heavily in the offensive attack, though neither is worth a look outside of larger leagues.
Calvin was unable to practice on Wednesday and could wind up being a game-time decision to face the Rams.
If he were to miss his second straight game, WRs Bryant Johnson and Dennis Northcutt would draw more targets. Based on the favorable matchup, the two veterans would be worth a look in larger leagues.
Wayne could be questionable to face the 49ers, so owners might see WRs Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie starting in Week 8. That’s in a worst-case scenario where Wayne and WR Anthony Gonzalez (knee) are both out of action.
If that turns out to be the case, Garcon and Collie would both be viable fantasy starters.
