The Jets just announced via Twitter Monday that they have placed RB Leon Washington on season-ending injured reserve.
Washington had surgery Sunday after breaking his right fibula during the first quarter of a 38-0 victory over the Raiders. Rookie Shonn Greene likely will take over Washington’s spot behind starter Thomas Jones.
The Jets said Washington is recovering well after a succesful two-hour operation and expected to make a full recovery.
Doctors placed a rod in Washington’s tibia to stabilize the fracture, and the fibula will heal on its own. Washington will remain in California under doctor’s observation and could return to New York by Wednesday, according to the Jets.
