Week 7 news and notes

  • Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin (ankle) was limited in Friday’s practice and is listed as questionable for Week 7, according to the team’s official website. However, coach Ken Whisenhunt did say Boldin has a “legitimate” chance to play on The Mike Francesa Show. Fantasy owners who have the roster space might want to add WR Jerheme Urban as insurance since Boldin plays on Sunday night.
  • The Dallas Morning News reports that Cowboys WR Roy Williams (ribs, probable) will “play through” his ailment. He’s slated to start against the Falcons, but at less than 100 percent. Until Williams shows some signs of life, WR Miles Austin should be considered the team’s best fantasy wideout.
  • The Washington Post reports that Redskins RB Clinton Portis (ankle) missed Friday’s practice. He hasn’t practiced all week, but he’s still expected to start on Monday night. He’s a risky fantasy option at best against the Eagles, especially with his ailments and the current start of the Redskins offense.
  • Patriots RB Sammy Morris (knee) has been ruled out for Week 7. With RB Fred Taylor (ankle) also on the sidelines, RB Laurence Maroney is in line to start against the Buccaneers in London. He’s a solid sleeper vs. the leagues’ 31st-ranked run defense. RBs Kevin Faulk and BenJarvus Green-Ellis are also worth a look.
  • Packers WR Greg Jennings (hip) was limited in Friday’s practice but is listed as probable to face the Browns. Despite his slow start to the season, Jennings should still be considered an attractive fantasy starter. The Browns have given up some big plays on the defensive side of the football.
  • Jets coach Rex Ryan has confirmed that WR Jerricho Cotchery (hamstring) will be held out of Sunday’s game in Oakland. That means more targets for WR Braylon Edwards, though it might not matter if QB Mark Sanchez continues to struggle. He’s thrown eight interceptions in the last three weeks.
  • Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco (hip) missed Friday’s practice but “should” play against the Texans, according to coach Marvin Lewis’ statement on the team’s official website. Barring setbacks over the weekend, the outspoken wideout from Oregon State should be active in most formats.
  • Vikings CB Antoine Winfield (foot) missed Friday’s practice and is doubtful to play against Pittsburgh. That’s a huge hit for the Vikes, who rank 28th in receiving defense. Fantasy owners should upgrade all Steelers wideouts, including Hines Ward, Santonio Holmes and Mike Wallace.
  • The Rock Hill Herald reports that Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart (heel) is listed as questionable to face the Bills, but he put in a full practice on Friday. That’s a good indication that he’ll be on the field Sunday. Stewart is a great sleeper against a bad Buffalo run defense (ranked 32nd) that will be without DT Kyle Williams.
  • Bills QB Trent Edwards (concussion) missed Friday’s practice and will be out for Sunday’s game against Carolina. QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will start in his absence. If you needed another reason to bench WR Terrell Owens, the Panthers are also second in receiving defense.
