Pro Bowl return man Clifton Smith will accompany the Buccaneers on their trip to London to face the Patriots, but his playing status remains uncertain because of the effects of a punishing blow he absorbed to the throat and head last Sunday, according to his agent, Jason Dillard.
The NFL handed a one-game suspension to the Panthers’ Dante Wesley, who was ejected from last Sunday’s game for launching himself at Smith, who was prone while looking up, following the trajectory of the punt.
Smith, who’s also a backup running back, has been dealing with concussion symptoms and problems with his throat. He has been limited in practice, but he hopes to play this Sunday — if he’s medically cleared.
