BOSTON — Veteran LB Junior Seau has agreed to a one-year contract with the Patriots. However, the move hasn’t been formally announced by the team because it hasn’t received the signed deal and it hasn’t made a roster move to clear space for Seau.
“At some point, he will be (on the team),” Patriots owner Bob Kraft said at the NFL Fall League Meeting on Tuesday. “He’s a unique individual with a unique physical frame and mental acumen. I’d love to have him (be) part of our team as long as he wants.”
Earlier in the day, Versus announced on its Web site that Seau was returning to the Patriots. The sides had the parameters of a deal in place last week.
Seau had been serving as the host for “Sports Jobs with Junior Seau,” but his anticipated return is now a reality.
“I’m very fortunate and honored to be involved with two class organizations — the New England Patriots and Versus,” Seau said in a statement released by Versus. ”I want to thank the management of both for making my return to the NFL with the New England Patriots a reality.”
Seau played in four games with the Patriots last season, his third in New England. This will be his 20th season in the NFL.
