With the NFL trading deadline set for Tuesday, it was time to talk trades on my Around the League segment with host Fran Charles on NFL Total Access.
The Browns have shown an inclination to listen to offers for QB Brady Quinn in the past, but there are minimal returns, according to sources to whom I’ve spoken. Quinn could generate some interest, but I’d be surprised if something got done.
Some personnel people believe Chargers LB Shawne Merriman isn’t untouchable. Judging by the comments from general manager A.J. Smith, it doesn’t seem like a lock that Merriman is a part of the Chargers’ future plans. I’d be stunned if he received a long-term contract from them anytime soon.
I’m also told by numerous league sources that the coaching staff in Kansas City isn’t high on NT Glenn Dorsey, a former first-round draft pick. There’s always a demand for nose tackles in this league, and the salary-cap ramifications wouldn’t be a deterrent in dealing for Dorsey. Another Chief to keep an eye on is LB Derrick Johnson.
