Beset with injuries along the offensive line, the Green Bay Packers turned to a familiar face on Monday, signing tackle Mark Tauscher.
“He’s played a ton of football for us,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said last week of Tauscher, who played nine seasons with Green Bay before suffering a major knee injury last December. “He’s played in this scheme from Day 1. Just to have his experience back is definitely … an asset.”
Tauscher will compete to reclaim his old job from Allen Barbre and help stabilize a line that has allowed a league-worst 20 sacks, including eight in a Monday night game a week ago against Minnesota.
The Packers, who had a Week 5 bye, are expecting veteran LT Chad Clifton (sprained right ankle) to return for next week’s home game against the Lions.
In another move, the Packers placed CB Will Blackmon on injured reserve, ending his season. Blackmon injured his knee on a kick return in the Vikings game.
