Cotchery active for Jets; Sheppard out

The Jets will have WR Jerricho Cotchery available for tonight’s game against the Dolphins. Cotchery is active for the game after he was listed as questionable with a hamstring injury.

The availability of Cotchery, the team’s leading receiver, is good news for rookie QB Mark Sanchez. The Jets have just five receivers on their active roster tonight, a group that includes the newly acquired Braylon Edwards, who has less than a week of practice time with his new team.

The Jets will be without two key members of the defensive secondary, as CBs Lito Sheppard (quadricep) and Donald Strickland (ankle) have been deactivated. Both players have missed the last two games. CB Dwight Lowery is the likely starter opposite CB Darrelle Revis.

The rest of the Jets inactives: QB Erik Ainge, CB Ahmad Carroll, LB Jamaal Westerman, OL Matt Slauson and DE Ropati RtoituaKevin O’Connell is listed as the No. 3 QB.

The Dolphins’ inactives: S Chris Clemons, OL Shawn Murphy, OL Andrew Gardner, DE Lionel Dotson, WR Patrick Turner, TE John Nalbone and LB Quentin Moses.
