NFL Network’s Kara Henderson reports that Lions veteran QB Danute Culpepper will start against the Steelers, replacing of injured starter Matthew Stafford, who is listed as the team’s third quarterback.
Stafford saw limited action in practice Friday after sitting out the previous two sessions due to the right knee injury he sustained last week. Coach Jim Scwhwartz and the Lions have been secretive about Stafford’s status this week, saving an announcement for today. Stafford hasn’t spoken to reporters this week, and neither he nor the team have confirmed reports that he suffered a dislocated kneecap.
Culpepper played in relief of Stafford last week, completing 6 of 11 passes for 54 yards.
