Baltimore Ravens LT Jared Gaither was taken off the field on a stretcher during the second quarter of today’s game against the Patriots after suffering what appears to be a serious head or neck injury. An announcment was made in the press box at Gillette Stadium that Gaither was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital for tests on his neck and shoulders, and that he has movement in all of his extremities.
Gaither was injured when he collided with several other players while pass blocking, and his momentum took him into the back of QB Joe Flacco. Gaither hit Flacco head-first with his helmet at an awkward angle.
Gaither was strapped to a backboard by medical personnel before being loaded onto the stretcher. He did move his hands and feet as he was being attended to.
We’ll pass along the latest on Gaither’s injury as we hear it.
